Clark Fork boy wins state title
Clark Fork High School senior Paul Trannell came home with a first place finish in the high hurdles at the State A-3 meet with a time of 16.1. He also placed second in the long jump at 21 feet, 3 1/4 inches. In addition to his joy at receiving medals in competition, Paul has the honor of being the school record holder for the high jump, long jump, and high hurdles. Additionally, throughout his high school years, he has been active on his varsity football and basketball teams.

Recital by piano students
Arlene Yeakel’s piano students gave a recital on Monday in Mrs. Yeakel’s home studio. The audience particularly enjoyed the duets, duets for two pianos, and folk pieces for two pianos. Students in the recital included Leslie Rosholt, Judy Wolf, Michelle Plaster, Lori Vandenberg, Cathy Abromeit, Coulett Bloom, Danny Powell, Deena Mott, Becky Meserve, Kevin Chapin, Carolyn Robinson, and Molly Bloom.

May 23, 1949 – Jim Dunn enlists in the Army.
Fred James Dunn, son of Mrs. Grace Dunn of Kootenai, is scheduled to report to Fort Ord, Calif., Friday evening, where he will again take part in Army training.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul M. Roman announce the engagement of their daughter Betty Lou to Dean Largent, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Largent. Mr. Roman is a senior in college. Mr. Largent is studying dentistry at the University of Washington. Plans are being made to have a wedding here in June at the Methodist Church.

Dairy farmers buy coolers
On Tuesday, 14 dairy farmers and their wives received International Harvester milk coolers that will help them qualify as producers of Grade A milk, marking a step forward for Bonner County’s dairy industry. . At noon, the group went to the GN station, where a milk cooler car was discovered and a photo taken at the time by Ross Hall.

Two local graduates of Sacred Heart
Norma Jean Johnson was among the 41 nurses who received their diplomas from Sacred Heart School of Nursing on Saturday. [later Wagoner] A native of this city and Miss Margarethe Ricken, Vi, both graduated from Sandpoint High School. Friends and relatives in attendance were Mrs. Julia Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Bishop, Miss Joy Newland, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Bishop, Mr. and Mrs. EJ Elliott of Kootenai, Mr. and Mrs. Klaus Rieken of Kootenai, and Mr. and Mrs. Billy King.
