Richard Meier & Partners completes new mansion in Yalikavak, Türkiye
New York, November 12, 2012 – Richard Meier & Partners announces its first completed project in Turkey’s Bodrum Peninsula. This home is part of a master plan consisting of 21 homes designed by world-renowned architect Richard Meier.
Located just on the outskirts of Yalikabak village on Turkey’s Bodrum Peninsula, this residential project consisting of 21 homes occupies a dramatic steep hillside site with views of Yalikabak Bay. The property’s dramatic topography makes each one-acre parcel unique and provides privacy from neighboring parcels. Five prototype houses will be provided, each approximately 330 square meters, with an additional 40 square meters of guesthouse.

The plan of each prototype is fixed regardless of its location on the site, but the configuration of the podium varies depending on the location of the individual plots. All homes will be positioned to maximize views and establish an occupancy order that further takes advantage of the views, regardless of the location of individual lots.
A clear promenade sequence characterizes each prototype, with the entrance drive leading to the external entrance staircase, which leads into the house’s entrance hall and into the double-height living room.

In each residence, the fireplace chimney becomes the central organizational element. The first floor of each house includes a living room, dining room, kitchen, and powder room. There are three bedrooms upstairs. The basement includes a media room, laundry room, and staff bedroom.

Richard Meier commented:
“Bodrum Residence is the first completed building in Turkey and a milestone in the development of Bodrum House. It gave a connection to the site: the external spaces, while remaining under the general roof, “carved out” the volumes of the structure, giving each house a subtractive sculptural quality.
Each element of the master plan’s composition reflects ambitious attention to detail and innovative use of construction solutions. We want this new development to not only be in direct dialogue with its site, but also to become the best living environment in Yalikavak.”
