It has been claimed that many provincial and district leaders will be asked to step down during the transition process that the party executive will be initiating on the instructions of AKP Chairman and President Tayyip Erdogan, aiming to complete the organizational renewal process before the parliament.
The process of change that began within the AKP after the local elections did not produce the expected results will accelerate in the coming days. The AKP government, based on the instructions of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has been preparing an alternative parliamentary schedule.
It was concluded that it would be more appropriate to hold the Congress in 2025, but it was decided that the process of change would be initiated by state and district chairmen within this period.
Floor to ceiling conversion
President Erdogan announced the “party flag change” at a party meeting he attended after the local elections, but party officials have so far not taken any steps.
According to a report from the Turkiye newspaper, known to be close to the government, President Erdogan believes the process of change should start from within the organization, not from the party leadership. In this regard, before the holidays, the heads of the provinces of Rize, Adiyaman and Batman resigned following instructions from the headquarters.
Some within the party are opposed to the organisation initiating a change process that is likely to gain momentum in the coming days.
However, the AKP government is currently completing its evaluation at the provincial and district level and has expressed the view that implementing reforms from the bottom up to the top will ensure the survival of the organization.
Comprehensive changes are happening even in states where elections were lost
Recalling Erdogan’s remark that “those who cannot get a passing grade from voters do not deserve our recognition,” AKP staffers noted that comprehensive change is on the horizon, especially in provinces where they lost the elections.
According to information obtained, the AKP government, which aims to complete the organizational shake-up process before the congress, is also conducting detailed consideration of who to appoint to replace the outgoing provincial and regional chairpersons.
Erdogan was said to have personally assessed the new names invited to each organization as “the names of close friends whom he trusts and whose opinions he values.”
