Ayhan Bora Kaplan case: “Secret witness” investigation completed
If the indictment is accepted, one of the suspects, Oner, faces two to 11 years in prison for “abuse of power,” “disclosing official secrets” and “facilitating criminals,” while the other suspects face sentences of two to 11 years in prison. Police officers Çelik, Demircan, Gültekin, İlkaz and Karaca face similar charges as well as “attempting to influence a witness,” each of which carries a sentence of four to 15 years.
One of the civilian suspects, Kopuk, was sentenced to two to four years in prison for “trying to influence a witness,” while the other four — Kacan, Chotuk, Kubat and Sercelik — will appear before a judge seeking six months to five years each for “giving preferential treatment to a criminal.”
Decision to separate
The Prosecutor’s Office decided to separate the investigation into the suspect from the crime of “agreement to commit a crime” stipulated in Article 316 of the Turkish Penal Code under the title “Crime against the constitutional order and the functioning of this order” and to send the investigation under a separate investigation number.
In addition, the investigation into Serdar Serçelik, a defendant in the Ayhan Bora Kaplan crime syndicate case who was arrested in Hungary while on a red notice, was separated because he did not receive a defense.
