Vigo County History Center Juneteenth Program TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Dozens of Terre Haute residents gathered at the Vigo County History Center on Wednesday for an event celebrating a place with ties to African-American history. Irvine investigators arrested a Monrovia man on Tuesday in connection with a series of thefts that began in November 2023. Police said Marcus Allen Corner, 37, posed as a food delivery man in these thefts and scouted out homes to break into. Irvine police arrested a man on Wednesday after he allegedly broke into homes and apartments while posing as a delivery driver. The Black national anthem “Lift Every Voice and Sing” rang out in Founders Park in downtown Springfield as the Juneteenth Freedom Festival kicked off Wednesday. The day, which became a federally recognized holiday in 2021, marks the anniversary of when news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas, in 1865. The prospect of opening a new Florida Black History Museum in South Florida is growing, with Opa-Locka in Miami-Dade County emerging as one of the final sites under consideration, and local leaders are eager to have the cultural institution based in their vibrant community.
