The Bellinger Crawford Museum has announced a special virtual NKY History Hour on Tuesday, August 6th at 6:30pm, when author Jessica K. Whitehead will present her book, “The History of the Kentucky Derby in 75 Objects,” which delves into the rich and comprehensive history of America’s longest continuously running sporting event.
In her book, Whitehead embarks on a journey to uncover the accurate history of the Kentucky Derby, taking readers on a personal tour of 75 carefully selected exhibits from the Kentucky Derby Museum. Her exhibits illuminate the significant contributions of black, Latino and women jockeys, owners and trainers, bringing them closer to the center of the Derby’s history.
In this special NKY History Hour, Whitehead will focus on 10 items featured in his book, detailing their historical significance and the stories they tell.
“To understand the Kentucky Derby is to understand the modern American psyche,” explains Whitehead. “The History of the Kentucky Derby in 75 Objects aims to balance well-known and lesser-known stories to provide a more complete and comprehensive history of this iconic event.”
Register online to attend the free presentation by the Behringer-Crawford Museum.
