Returning from a visit to Spain and Italy, President Erdogan answered journalists’ questions on the plane and gave his assessment of the agenda.
In response to a question about the remarks made by MHP Chairman Debret Bahceli, President Erdogan said:
Mr. Devlet’s remarks were made calmly and statesmanlike, without allowing for debate. I think it was very appropriate that he ended the issue in this way. We, the People’s Alliance, will never compromise our position. Our party’s spokesman, Mr. Omer Çelik, has already given the necessary clarifications in detail. If we pay attention to these remarks, there are no provocations or confrontations. There are only clear stances. Mr. Omer Bey’s statement was accurate in expressing our party’s position as the side of the People’s Alliance.
“They couldn’t understand our return visit.”
On the other hand, there were some statements from the CHP. We said that we wanted to bring harmony and kindness to politics by visiting again. But people who did not understand this courtesy held a press conference in Istanbul and were obviously under someone’s influence there. So we got approval from some places.
Of course, these are not the right things, they are not the good things. They do not contribute to the process. So this is not a softening. It is not a new beginning in politics. Apparently they could not stand our return visit. If our friend, the CHP leader, would accept our return visit, there should be no need to make such statements. In the face of such a statement, as the president and as the leader of the Justice and Development Party, I would consider it wrong to even respond to it. But whatever they do. We will continue to take the same position and unity as the People’s Alliance. I will also say that the People’s Alliance is not a table of six. Those who are at the table of six, read what you know.
