Ariana Grande is in the midst of promoting her latest album, “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” which has spawned several hit singles, and she is currently working on her next song, “The Boy Is Mine,” which is expected to be another big hit.
As Grande prepares to release another single from her full-length album, her focus remains on topping the Billboard charts, where the song will dethrone one of the publisher’s most competitive charts this week — and right after it helped Grande make history.
Grande has been pushed out of the spotlight on this week’s Pop Airplay chart, a ranking of the most successful songs at US Top 40 pop radio. Her single “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” dropped from the No. 1 spot after only a few seconds at the top, this time dropping to No. 3. While she may no longer be a commanding number one, the song has helped the powerhouse vocalist earn a new place in chart history.
“We Can’t Be Friends” peaked at number one on the Pop Airplay chart a few weeks ago, marking Grande’s 10th No. 1. With the song finally reaching the top spot, the Grammy Award winner becomes one of six musicians to ever reach double-digit number one spots.
With 10 champions, Grande is currently tied with Justin Bieber. The two stars are tied for the fifth-most champions in the chart’s history. Taylor Swift leads the way with 13 songs. Katy Perry, Maroon 5 and Rihanna are all tied with 11 each.
This frame, the record for pop airplay is held by SZA, as the R&B and pop superstar’s single “Saturn” rose from No. 3 to No. 1 in the record’s 13th frame.
“Saturn” is SZA’s third No. 1 on the pop airplay chart, having previously topped it with her own “Kill Bill” and “Kiss Me More” with Doja Cat.
