Animal rights activists held a rally: “Don’t collect, don’t jail, don’t kill!”
“Stray animals with whom we share our roads, parks and neighbourhoods are under great threat. Bills will be introduced that include the collection and killing of dogs,” he said in a statement made at the rally. “While they are being debated in Parliament, it should be understood by now that efforts such as eliminating animal protection organisations are not the solution.”
“Our society categorically rejects any law that involves the collection and killing of dogs and cats,” the statement said. “Caring for the weak and showing mercy to them is one of the most fundamental virtues of human dignity. It is inconceivable to us to think of collecting and destroying animals that are starving, cold and sick on the streets,” it added. “Nor is it in keeping with our human dignity.”
Everyone at the rally reacted to the bill, chanting slogans such as “No tax, no jail, no kill.”
