Positive fact – The release of the Turkish Statistical Institute’s six-month producer inflation data also saw an increase in the amount of special consumption tax (SCT) reflected on beverages and tobacco.
The Revenue Authority (GIB) announced the new prices in a statement, noting that the six-month producer inflation rate was calculated at 19.49 percent, which was reflected in alcohol and tobacco.
Accordingly, the SCT amount for a pack of cigarettes increased by 6.49 TL from 33.3 TL to 39.5 TL, for beer it increased by 1.51 TL from 7.78 TL to 8.29 TL, for wine it increased by 7.45 TL to 38.24 TL, for alcoholic beverages it increased by 2.06 TL per liter to 12.69 TL.
Adding the 20 percent Value Added Tax (VAT) to these figures, the current price increase for a pack of cigarettes comes to 7.79 TL.
According to tax expert Dr. Soščiu, Ozan Bingöl, calculated the increase in raki prices as follows: the special excise tax amount for 70 liters of raki increased from 334.72 TL to 399.96 TL, the VAT amount increased from 116.50 TL to 142.21 TL, and the total tax amount increased from 451.22 TL to 542.17 TL.
The price of 70 raki was around TL 699 at the beginning of the year, but rose to TL 775 following a producer price increase in April, and has now risen to TL 853. ( source )
