Grocery stores selected ReposiTrak to exchange FDA-required traceability data on each shipment to increase food safety and supply chain transparency.
DELAFIELD, Wis. & SALT LAKE CITY, July 10, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Albrecht’s Delafield Markets, a family-owned supermarket serving the Lake County community since 1994, has selected the ReposiTrak Traceability Network® (RTN) to automate the exchange of traceability data with its suppliers. The FDA’s FSMA 204 food traceability law requires the exchange of information between supply chain operators to document a product’s path through the supply chain from its point of origin to the point of sale. Albrecht’s use of the RTN simplifies the traceability process for the supermarket and its suppliers.
“Food traceability is required by law, and as a single-store operator, it was especially important to us to make the process as easy as possible for our valued suppliers,” said Jordan Jean-Pierre, co-owner of Albrecht’s Delafield Market. “Our suppliers will be able to submit data through RTN with every shipment, making our supply chain even more secure and giving us even more visibility into the products we sell than ever before.”
Food traceability requires the exchange of complex sets of data that the FDA calls “Key Data Elements” or “KDEs.” Some KDEs can be printed on the label, such as the product description, Traceability Lot Code (TLC), and information about where the product was manufactured. However, some required KDEs are not known at the time the label is printed and must be transmitted electronically with every shipment. RTN allows you to collect, organize, and store in a searchable format the KDEs for every product, from every source, in accordance with FSMA 204 Food Traceability Act and the specific requirements of each retailer and wholesaler.
“It’s critical that retailers and wholesalers follow Albrecht’s example and begin their food traceability efforts now,” added Randy Fields, chairman and CEO of ReposiTrak. “Our first step is to work with each supplier to find the data they need and run it through the RTN. That data will be used to create the complete traceability records necessary to meet the requirements of the FDA’s Food Traceability Act.”
Suppliers at Albrecht’s Delafield Market join more than 8,000 suppliers already waiting to connect to the ReposiTrak traceability network, which will share traceability data with retailers and wholesalers across the country.
