“I am assessing the situation and determining today what action will be in the interest of the country, the people and Iran today,” Ahmadinejad said in a graphic address to supporters who had visited his home and urged him to run.
“I will send you the results.”
President Ahmadinejad said the situation in the country was delicate and added: “I am assessing it as per your orders and will announce the results to you.”
His candidacy was rejected twice.
Ahmadinejad, a conservative politician who ruled the country for two terms from 2005 to 2013, had wanted to run against former President Hassan Rouhani in 2017 but was rejected.
The Constitutional Defense Council has again vetoed a request by President Ahmadinejad to run in the 2021 presidential election as the candidate of President Ibrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash on May 19.

According to the constitution, First Vice President Mukhbir became acting president with the approval of Iranian Leader Ayatollah Khamenei following his death in a helicopter crash on May 19.
According to the Iranian constitution, if the current president dies, the council consisting of the speaker of parliament, the head of the judiciary and the first vice president must make the necessary arrangements to elect a new president within a maximum of 50 days.
In this regard, at an extraordinary meeting of the legislative, executive and judicial branches held on May 20, it was decided that the presidential elections would be held on June 28.
In Iran, the president is elected by the people from among candidates approved by the Constitutional Defense Council.
