The next time you visit the Asbury Park Boardwalk, stroll down the hallway of the hallowed halls between the Paramount Theatre and Convention Hall and remember the legendary musicians who performed just a few feet from where you walk.
The list of amazing artists who have performed at Convention Hall is even more impressive than you might imagine.
Asbury Park’s Fabulous Music History
These are just a few of the performers who have graced the Convention Hall stage, according to the concert archive, which covers only the period from the 1950s to the end of the century.
These included Bill Haley and His Comets, famous for “Rock Around the Clock,” which was later used as the theme song for Happy Days, Frankie Avalon, Conor Francis, and Dion and the Belmonts.

Now, let’s move on to the ’60s, when names like Chubby Checker, The Beach Boys, The Four Seasons, Stevie Wonder, Jackie Wilson, The Four Tops, Ray Charles, Herman’s Hermits, The Doors and Led Zeppelin graced the Marquise.
Other great artists who have performed in Asbury Park
Black Sabbath, Chicago, Jethro Tull, Elton John, the Bee Gees, The Righteous Brothers, ZZ Top, Kiss, Heart, Kool and the Gang, Blondie, Southside Johnny and the Jukes and Van Halen all appeared onstage.
In the ’80s, Blue Oyster Cult, the Ramones and Elvis Costello all played shows at Convention Hall.
The ’90s list is also impressive: No Doubt, Marilyn Manson, Megadeth, The Wallflowers and, of course, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band all performed at Convention Hall.
And who knows what the 21st century will bring when the legendary venue returns to its best.
