And you get to experience unique foods from different cultures. This weekend we have a vegan festival debuting in West Allis. It’s called Vegan Mania, and Claudia Coco, one of the organizers of the festival, joins me now. Claudia, thank you so much for being here. This is so, so exciting. Milwaukee’s first Vegan Mania. Tell us a little bit about how this idea came about. Yeah, thank you so much for being here. This is Milwaukee’s first Vegan Mania that we’ve hosted, and our first outdoor event. But we started hosting vegan pop-ups. It started with the Madison Vegan Pop-up in 2019. Since then, we’ve hosted over 10 events in Madison and Milwaukee, and we hosted a vegan pop-up at the historic Pabst Brewery. But this is our first Vegan Mania event, and it’s going to be outdoors. We’re really excited to be hosting it in Greenfield Park. It’s this Sunday, from 11am to 4pm. You mentioned some of the smaller pop-up events that you’ve hosted before. And obviously, this is the first full-scale Vegan Mania Festival. What have you seen so far in terms of vegan trends and things like that? People who are actually living a vegan lifestyle? Right. What’s unique about our events is that they’re not just for vegan people. It’s open to anyone, even families. In fact, the purpose of hosting these events is to promote healthy plant-based living. We showcase how delicious vegan food and products are, and we raise money for different farm preserves in Wisconsin and Illinois. I think the general trend is that people are excited to try plant-based foods. And you can have savory foods, savory foods, sweet foods, smoothies, desserts, and things from different cultures, and you find that they’re just as delicious as non-plant-based foods. Yeah, from my personal experience, I feel like there’s been an uptick in vegan and plant-based restaurants in the Milwaukee area over the last few years. I was surprised to see the lineup of vendors and restaurants that will be at the Vegan Mania Festival this Sunday. What kind of people are you expecting to see? Yeah, we have a lineup of delicious foods. I encourage people to come hungry. We have a variety of food, including burgers, sandwiches, pasta, Asian, Puerto Rican, Mexican, and soul food. We have 10 great vendors from the Chicago area. We also have sweet treats, like cupcakes, cookies, cakes, and pies, that you can enjoy on the spot or take home. One of my favorites is CINNAHOLIC in Wicker Park, Chicago. We have drinks, frozen sweets, cheese, vegan cheese (with AZ) and other things to take home. We also have a variety of vendors, and a variety of trinkets and goodies to buy. Great gifts, like soaps, jewelry, handbags, and t-shirts. But we also have activities that are fun for kids to enjoy. It’s a great day to spend time at the park, look around, try new foods, and buy souvenirs. Yeah, it’s awesome. I saw some of the photos you took while you were talking during the interview, and they all looked delicious. Here are some things you can check out this weekend at Vegan Mania. Thank you so much for joining us again. Vegan Mania will take place on Sunday from 11am to 4pm at Greenfield Park in West Allis. Admission is free.
