LAKE CITY, S.C. (WBTW) — The Dr. Ronald McNair Life History Center is hosting an innovative aviation camp aimed at inspiring young minds towards careers in aviation and STEM fields.
The four-day camp is aimed at students ages 13-17 and provides hands-on instruction covering topics such as building rockets, flying drones and aerodynamics.
The camp aims to increase interest in STEM fields and aviation and is a joint effort between the Class of 1982, the Ron McNair Committee, other contributors and Florence School District No. 3.
Florence County School District 3 Superintendent Dr. Laura Hixson said the county’s mission is to make sure students are college and career ready.
“Starting this aviation program and running this propulsion camp was another way to generate interest among students,” Hixson said.
The camp will conclude on Friday, when the students will receive their diplomas and their very own wings.
