LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Food Bank held a major fundraiser on Tuesday.
Attendees paid $25 for admission to the Empty Bowl Luncheon and received a filling bowl of soup and a specially made ceramic bowl.
This year, Down Under Pottery Studio created 1,085 ceramic bowls for the event.
The Empty Bowl event alone has provided 4.8 million meals to those in need over the past 22 years.
“People come together around food, and it’s an experience,” said food bank CEO Michaela Kumke, “and that speaks to the core of what Lincoln Food Bank does: food brings people together.”
Hundreds of people, including the mayor, attended the event at the Embassy Suites Hotel.
Twelve local groups competed to make the best soup:
Asian Tastes Thai Restaurant Billy’s Restaurant Buzzard Billy’s Carmela’s Bistro Casa Bobina Chef Chef Catering Embassy Bar & Grill Great Plains Culinary Institute Lazlo’s Brewery & Grill La Paz Mexican Restaurant Legacy Terrace Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach Zipline Tap & Grill
If you would like to support this effort, the Lincoln Food Bank is one of the organizations you can donate to on Giving Lincoln Day.
