Blue Lagoon Iceland will partially reopen its spa on Saturday, January 6, it said in a statement on Friday.
“In close cooperation with the authorities, we have decided to reopen some operational units in Svartsengi from Saturday, January 6,” the statement said.
The geothermal hot springs have been closed since December 18th due to a volcano in the area erupting, which had stopped by the end of December, according to the Icelandic Meteorological Office.
Opening times: Blue Lagoon, Blue Café, Lava Restaurant, Retreat Spa, Spa Restaurant and onsite store. Blue Lagoon will be open daily from 11am to 8pm.
Scheduled closures: Silica Hotel, Retreat Hotel and Moss Restaurant will be closed until Monday 8th January, after which the situation will be re-evaluated.
Blue Lagoon reopens after being closed for over a month
Before the volcano erupted, the Blue Lagoon reopened ahead of schedule on December 17. The resort had been closed for more than a month due to earthquakes caused by the volcano. The extended closure has cost the Blue Lagoon more than 4 billion Icelandic krona ($29 million), Iceland Monitor reported.
During the closure, tour operators replaced the Blue Lagoon with the Sky Lagoon in their itineraries.
