ELKINS — A large group of guests enjoyed a wide variety of dishes prepared by students at Highland Adventist School’s annual International Food Fair, held last month at the Holiday Inn Express in downtown Elkins.
For the event, students from the school worked in teams to cook dishes from 15 different international cultures. After researching their chosen country, students designed informational posters for the fair detailing each culture’s dishes.
Students decorated tables for the event and dressed in costumes representing their chosen countries.
“The 2024 International Foot Fair was a great success,” said Stacey Branzie, teacher and event planner at Highland Adventist. “Students gain skills through participating in the fair – they research different cultures, learn cooking procedures and practice persuasive speaking while speaking with customers. Our food fair is much more than just a social studies project for our students.”
The International Food Fair is an annual event that has been held at Highland Adventist School for over 20 years. The food fair fundraiser has seen representatives from countries such as Brazil, Australia, Mexico, Korea and India participate.
“I’d like to thank Craig Fortney, manager of the Elkins Holiday Inn Express, for hosting this event,” Branzy said.
