Heavy rains in Ankara: Two brothers caught in floods
Nagam Al Saro, who was crushed under the car by the current, was rescued by nearby residents after a short time. The girl was carried to the sidewalk where staff from a nearby dental clinic administered first aid. The boy was resuscitated with cardiac massage and taken to hospital in an ambulance.
His brother, Seif Al Salo, was also pulled from the sea with the help of others.
“We took him out unwittingly.”
Hakan Ozdemir, an employee at the dental clinic, said the incident happened within three minutes.
Ozdemir said he happened to notice the situation while he was recording the rain. “I was filming the flooding on my camera and I saw the kids, so I ran out and got one of them in and pulled the other one out from under the floodwaters,” he said. After three or four minutes, he and another friend got into a car. Thankfully, he was OK. Our friend was heartbroken, but then an ambulance came,” he said.
“We are so grateful for the help we received,” said Ozlem Simsek, a clinic worker who administered CPR to the girl who was trapped under the car.
“We were watching the rain from inside and we saw two kids caught in the floodwaters. A car came out and we said, ‘They must be stopping in front of the car as a barrier.’ The car didn’t notice.” We saw the kids come out from under the car and I picked up the little boy and left him in a dry place. But he was trapped under the car. We struggled with the floodwaters for about seven minutes. ‘Didn’t you see him come out the other side?’ And they got the kid out and they immediately did CPR on him. “There was no need for a break, just CPR was enough. They were two brothers and their mother came right away.”
