Here are some tips to help you save time and money before you board your flight.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The busy summer travel season is fast approaching.
Sacramento International Airport expects monthly passenger numbers to reach 1.2 million from June through August, a new record, and is expected to welcome more than 13 million travelers this year.
New nonstop flights from Sacramento to Kona and Kauai will begin this month, nonstop flights to Detroit will begin in July and seasonal flights to Baltimore will run from June through September, according to airport spokesman Scott Johnston.
With Memorial Day weekend approaching and the summer travel season fast approaching, Johnston recommends giving yourself plenty of time to get to the airport before your flight.
“Please check out the parking app on our website before you head out and we also highly encourage you to take advantage of rideshare or have a friend or family member drive you to the airport so they can drop you off right at your doorstep, it makes it so much easier,” Johnston said.
If you’re thinking about booking flights this summer, Expedia travel expert Christy Hudson says now is the time.
“According to Expedia data, the best time to book is 21 to 60 days before travel, whether it’s an international or domestic trip, and you can save about 15% on airfare,” Hudson said.
Hudson says you can save money by traveling early in the week, on a Monday or Tuesday, as these are the least crowded days to travel.
The last week of June through the first week of July is the busiest and most expensive time to travel this summer, according to Hudson. If you wait until mid- to late August, you’ll probably be able to get a cheaper price, he said.
Expedia says popular destinations this summer include London, Japan, Mexico and the beaches of the Caribbean, with Paris also set to be crowded due to the Olympics.
