Kerala has been hit by heavy rains even before the monsoon season began this year, which has already caused flooding, landslides and traffic jams in many places. An orange alert was issued in seven districts from Ernakulam to Wayanad on Thursday. Many tourist destinations in the state have been closed in the wake of the situation.
Tourist attractions closed
1) Travel to Ponmudi hill station in Thiruvananthapuram is prohibited from May 18 onwards. The restrictions will remain in place until the authorities announce otherwise.
2) Night movement in the hilly areas of Idukki district is prohibited. To ensure the safety of tourist spots in the district, restrictions will be imposed on waterfalls and water bodies. Off-road safaris are also strictly prohibited.
3) Tourists should avoid visiting the coast as the waves may be high.
4) Due to heavy rains, all tourist centres in Thrissur district will remain closed. These include the popular Athirapally and Vazhachal waterfalls. Birangan Hills, Poomala Dam, Kalasamala, Chepala, Vajani Dam, Peach Dam, Enamav Nehru Park, Snehatheeram Beach, Chavakkad Beach and Tumbolmozhi River Garden are some of the other famous spots that will remain closed.
