President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced at a joint press conference that Romanian citizens can now travel to Turkey with an ID card.
“Our goal is $15 billion.”
The headlines of President Erdoğan’s speech are as follows:
During my term as Prime Minister in 2011, we elevated our relationship with Romania to the level of a strategic partnership. With the joint declaration signed today with the esteemed Prime Minister, we have ensured the establishment of the Turkiye-Romania High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.
Mutual trade volume exceeded $10 billion for the second consecutive year. Our goal is to reach $15 billion. We are taking firm steps in this direction. Our investment in Romania approaches $8 billion.
We focused on ways to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector. Our cooperation in the defense industry and military field constitutes one of the important pillars of our relations with Romania. We have gained significant momentum in recent years both in this area and in defense industrial cooperation.
We are working with Romania, a Black Sea coastal state and NATO ally. As you are aware, we have established a Mine Action Task Group in the Black Sea with the participation of Bulgaria.
The fight against terrorism was also on the agenda of our meeting. We shared Romania’s hopes in the fight against terrorism with our respected Prime Minister. We see Turkey and the Turkish Tatar community as a bridge of friendship. I am glad that our compatriots live in harmony with the Roma community. We would like to thank the Romanian authorities for making this possible.
Romanian citizens will be able to travel with an identity card
I would like to take this opportunity to announce that we have introduced regulations that will allow Romanian citizens to travel to our country with an identity document.
