growing up
Sultan was born on December 10, 1982, but it wasn’t until he was 10 years old that his incredible growth began.
The rest of his family, including his parents and four siblings, are all of average build.
Sultan’s unusual growth and enormous stature is caused by a condition known as “pituitary gigantism,” which is the result of excessive secretion of growth hormone.
Growth hormone is released by the pituitary gland in the brain. For example, if a gland is damaged by a tumor, it may release too much (or too little) hormones. The effects of overproduction include enlarged hands, thickened bones, and painful joints.
The Sultan was unable to finish school because he was too large, and instead began working as a farmer to support his family.
He has previously said that one of the benefits of being tall is that he can help his mother with tasks, such as changing broken light bulbs and hanging curtains.
As for the disadvantages of being tall, he complained that it was difficult to find clothes and shoes that fit, and that it was very difficult to drive in a normal-sized car.
As a teenager, Sultan signed with the Galatasaray basketball team, but unfortunately he was too tall to play. However, he remains a fan of the sport.
break the record
When Sultan was included in the Guinness Book of World Records, he said, “I never imagined that I would be included in this book, I even dreamed of it, but it was still a big surprise.”
The Sultan also holds the record for the largest extant human hand, measuring 28.5 cm (11.22 inches) from the wrist to the tip of the middle finger.
He previously held the record for the largest living person’s feet, with his left foot measuring 36.5 cm (1 ft 2 in) and his right foot measuring 35.5 cm (1 ft 1.98 in).

During his first visit to London, England, in September 2009, the Sultan expressed hope that his newfound fame would change his life and help him find a wife. Since she is famous now, you will be able to meet many girls. My dream is to get married. ”
“I want what everyone else wants: a wife, a family, a nice home,” Sultan said. “I would also like the chance to find decent clothes that fit me! I have already had a suit made, but at least one dream has come true. Now I have a suit made especially for me. I own the jeans!”
In the years that followed, the giant’s life changed. The revelation of his record-breaking height allowed him to benefit from free life-saving surgery to stop his rapid growth. He also enjoyed specially tailored clothing and opportunities to travel the world.
In August 2010, the innovative Gamma Knife surgery performed by the University of Virginia in the US on a tumor affecting the pituitary gland finally stopped Sultan’s growth hormone production and stopped him from growing taller.
In October 2013, they finally made their dream of marriage come true.
get married
Sultan and Merve Dibo, who is nine years his junior and only 5 feet 9 inches (1.75 meters) tall, met through mutual friends.
Merve traveled from her home in Hasaki, Syria, to the Turkish village of Dedeköy to meet him. They married two months later.
After the ceremony, the bride and groom enjoyed a grand wedding reception with over 1,500 guests, including representatives from Guinness World Records and local celebrities.
After the wedding, the happy couple returns to a specially designed house in Dedeköy, where they hope to raise their children in the future.
