From September 16th to October 23rd, a large-scale project called the “Turkiye Cultural Route Festival” will be held in five cities in the country, sponsored by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The project, which was first created in 2021 at the Beyoglu Cultural Route Festival in Istanbul and will be held in Ankara, Canakkale, Diyarbakır, Konya and Nevsehir in 2022, is especially large-scale this year to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Turkiye Republic. It was held in this format.
The project aims to more fully present and promote Turkey’s rich cultural heritage, arts, unique cuisine of each region, historical monuments – a diverse palette of culture and tourism – to the world. This time, the Turkiye Cultural Street Festival will be expanded to five cities – Istanbul, Ankara, Çanakkale, Konya and Diyarbakir – and hundreds of events will be held.
In fact, this year’s planned route for the Turkiye Cultural Street Festival was supposed to cover a total of 11 cities and provinces, including Gaziantep province, known for its rich food culture and registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. However, the nationwide impact of the earthquake and disaster that occurred on February 6 and caused great losses and destruction in Gaziantep province led to changes in the route and spatio-temporal program of the project. And some previously planned cities (including Trabzon and Nevsehir in August) hosted events within the framework of the project.
The program of the Turkiye Cultural Route Festival, which will tour five cities from September 16th to October 23rd, is unprecedented in the country’s history.
Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy revealed detailed information about this at a press conference on the launch of the project.
The minister said that the festival where culture meets art is being held along a unique route, and this time a series of events in five cities and provinces will provide a unique cultural and artistic experience. During the Turkiye Cultural Route Festival, a total of 15,000 artists will participate in more than 3,000 events ranging from art to film, literature to dance, music to digital art. Along with developing the cultural routes of our cities, we make culture and art accessible to everyone through the “Turkiye Cultural Route Festival”, which is held to introduce our country’s cultural heritage to the world ” said Mehmet Nuri Ersoy.
The route for this year’s Turkiye Cultural Highway Festival starts from Çanakkale. The Troy Cultural Route Festival, to be held in Canakkale from September 16th to 25th, will feature more than 100 events including exhibitions, concerts, talks and seminars in 40 venues.
The next stage of the project is Konya, the gathering place for mystical music from all over the world. A series of events will be held here from September 22nd to 30th. The 19th International Konya Mysterious Music Festival is also included in this series. This year, musicians from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Spain, Egypt, Germany, Uzbekistan, India and Iran will perform at the festival commemorating Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi’s 815th birthday.
The festival excitement continues from October 1 to 23 in Istanbul and Ankara simultaneously. At the Beyoglu Cultural Route festival in Istanbul, more than 6,000 artists will meet art lovers at more than 1,000 events in 46 different venues. In Ankara’s Ulus district, around 5,000 artists are expected to take part, with more than 500 events taking place in 70 different locations.
The Sur Culture Road Festival will be held in Diyarbakır from October 8th to 16th, with over 2,000 artists and over 500 events spreading the richness of Turkiye’s culture and art from the region to the world.
Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy also pointed out that these events will be attended by cultural artists and media personnel from various countries. In 2021 he hosted media representatives from 29 countries and in 2022 he hosted media representatives from 31 countries. This year, the range will be even wider. The benefits gained from the Turkiye Cultural Route Festival are irreplaceable…
The minister said that next year the cities of Izmir and Adana will also join the festivals. “We are determined to continue expanding the Turkish Cultural Route Festival every year and make it a tradition.”
