TEHRAN—A total of 280,951 Iranian nationals visited Turkey in October, making the Islamic Republic the fourth most visited tourist destination for the neighboring country in the month.
The number of international tourists exceeded 6.66 million in August, an increase of 5.65% from the same month last year, according to data compiled by Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism on Friday.
According to the data, 871,270 Germans accounted for 13.1% of all foreign tourists in August, an increase of 1.52% year-on-year. The data revealed that Russians followed with 852,640 visitors, followed by British nationals with 588,448, Iranians with 280,951 and Polish visitors with 279,040.
Antalya, a popular resort city on the Turkish Riviera, tops the list in attracting foreign tourists at 37%, with 3.5 million foreign tourists visiting last month.
Istanbul, Turkey’s most populous city and top tourist destination, ranked second with 1.7 million foreign tourists visiting in August.
Mugla province in the Aegean Sea and Edirne province in the northwest, which borders Bulgaria and Greece, followed with 628,654 and 525,270 foreign tourists, respectively.
Overall, this year’s tourist influx has been led by tourists from Russia, followed by vacationers from Europe, particularly Germany and the United Kingdom.
The number of foreigners arriving in the country from January to August increased by 13.95% from the same period last year to 33.4 million. Russia accounted for the most foreign tourists in the first eight months of this year, with 4.3 million arrivals, an increase of 49.8% year-on-year.
In terms of tourist arrivals, Germans received 4.1 million, British tourists 2.7 million and Bulgarians 1.8 million in the eight-month period. Istanbul received 6.3 million visitors in 5 months, representing 44.7% of all foreign tourists. Antalya came in second place with 22.40% or 3.1 million tourists. Edirne followed with his 10.5% share, or her 1.5 million visitors.
Australia
