Here’s some news to cheer you up (and won’t make you sleepy, I promise). A highly controversial new study has ranked the top 100 most boring tourist attractions in the world, and seven of them are thought to be right here in Australia.
The study, conducted by online gaming company Solitaired, examined 66.7 million Google reviews of 3,290 attractions in 384 cities across 71 countries. Rather than using Google star ratings, we created a ranking based on the attractions with the most mentions of keywords synonymous with the word “boring,” such as “boring,” “boring,” and “monotonous.” .
The first red flag in the study was the inclusion of Tasmania’s Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), once hailed by Lonely Planet as the world’s best contemporary art museum, on the list. On a scale of 0 to 5, MONA received a boredom score of 1.90, ranking it 76th. This huge, futuristic museum may not be for everyone, but it’s definitely a crown jewel of the contemporary art scene and an easy time out. A unique list of Australia’s top tourist attractions. We’re not the only ones who think so. MONA has an average of 4.4 stars on Google based on over 10,000 reviews worldwide.
