Heavy rains continue across Kerala, causing landslides and floods, and many tourist destinations have been closed for safety reasons. Tourism officials said the closures will remain in place until the rain warning is lifted. Details are as follows:
Ernakulam
1) Ecotourism Centre under Malayattur Forest Division
2) Panieri Pol, Bhoothasanket and Mahagani Thotam will be closed on 31st July, 1st and 2nd August.
3) All tourist centres under Ernakulam DTPC will remain closed until further notice.
Thrissur
For the time being, entry to all tourist places will remain banned till July 31. Movement via Malakappara and Chalakudy will be restricted.
Kottayam
No entry is permitted to Ilavedzapoonchira, Illikkal Kal and Marmara until further notice. Night traffic on the Erattupetta-Vagamon road has been banned till August 4.
Palakkad
Entry to tourist sites in the area is prohibited until August 2. The area was under yellow alert (localized rainfall) on July 31.
Wayanad, Kannur, Malappuram, Kozhikode
Entry to tourist sites in the area will be prohibited until further notice. An Orange Alert (very heavy rainfall) will be issued on 31 July.
Idukki
Poopala-Munnar Gap Road and Adimali-Munnar Road are completely closed due to landslides at various places, including Pallivasal. Due to this, access to Devikulam is not possible for the time being. Old Munnar areas are also partially flooded. Panamkutty Bridge on Adimali-Kumili Road is also almost submerged.
