The Sultans played the first two sets in such a way that it was difficult for both them and the audience to make sense of the performance.
The national volleyball team was unable to make its presence felt against the Netherlands, who seemed to have the upper hand from the beginning. He appeared anxious, scattered and unfocused.
In the first two sets of the match, I made too many individual mistakes, served poorly, didn’t block effectively and couldn’t find a solution to my opponent’s triple block, leading to me conceding points.
The team’s poor play in the lost set did not bode well for the next set, but we got what we wanted with important interventions from Meliha who took charge, important serves from Asli, points from Eda Erdem, Ebrard and Handy, rocket-speed dunks from our superstar Vargas and of course good defense from Gizem Orguet.
On my bad days I perform much slower than usual, I feel confused, anxious and have problems with motivation. In a match where our hopes were starting to fade I was very happy to pull off a difficult comeback win on a day when my opponent defended very well, served very well and looked much more committed.
After the match, captain Eda Erdem’s words, “The fact that we persevered and won this match despite playing such poor volleyball, shows our strength,” also emphasized the importance of the victory in this match.
Vargas, Vargas, Vargas
Our superstar Melissa Vargas, who gives her best in every match and manages to score between 3-5 points in every game, made history with a match where she made an insane amount of mistakes.
With her 30 points against the Netherlands, a volleyball player made us proud once again by becoming just the 12th player in Olympic history to reach 30 points in a single game.
It goes against the Olympic spirit
The Olympic Games are a tradition in which the unifying power of sport comes to the fore and should prevail over peace, friendship, unity, dedication, perseverance, integrity, sports ethics and sportsmanship.
However, at the most crucial moment of the match, when it was clear there was no need for “hawk eyes”, the attitude of the Dutch players and technical team was not in keeping with the Olympic spirit.
In the words of his colleague Kerem Onsel, it was shameful for head coach Felix Koslowski to insist on the opposite after the ball touched Jorrian Norema’s hands during an attack by captain Edda.
Ebrard throws the first stone
A social media post made by Ebrard Karakurt, one of the main contributors to the victory, also proved to be cornerstone.
“Ersoy’s grandmother has been avenged,” Ebrard said, referring to the character Ersoy from the TV series “Like” and to the Netherlands, as he smiled again in celebration of his victory.
The discussion was reflected negatively
Let’s talk about why the sultans of the internet have problems concentrating…
Apparently, the discussions that took place just before the start of the Paris 2024 tournament after the changes to the team by Tugba Şenol and Ilkin Aydın have unfortunately had a negative impact on the national volleyball team players.
After days of mainstream and social media debate, players on the national volleyball team experienced a lack of motivation and enthusiasm.
Hopefully, with these debates behind us, the Sultans of the Internet can return to their roots and set sail for new success…
