Pro-life advocates rally in Ankara and Istanbul against genocide law
“Everything that is legal is not legal.”
A joint press release from the Law for Life Initiative and the Animal, Life, Freedom Initiative made the following statement:
“It is because of a handful of AKP and MHP deputies who raised and lowered their hands without saying a word in the Agriculture Committee that the genocide law was brought to the National Assembly. Now they are paving the way by passing this bloody law in disregard of the people. Let me remind you once again how genocide is carried out against animals living on the streets. Everything that is legal is not legal.”
“We’re not going to allow you to commit murder just to line your pockets.”
Despite those who risk their lives to vote in the streets and those who spread hate, we raise our voices in our streets, our neighborhoods, our town squares and stand shoulder to shoulder with our friends. The right to life of our neighbors and the animals with whom we have shared our streets for centuries cannot be subject to cost and benefit calculations. We will not tolerate murder just for the sake of lining one’s pocket.
“We will not give up on our friends or the fight for justice.”
We are very angry, but at the same time we are very determined and resilient. As the fight against our friends who live on the streets continues, we cannot give up. We will not allow even one animal to be harmed. We will not abandon our friends or our fight.
“Animals don’t need anyone’s conscience”
We have said it before: animals do not need anyone’s sympathy! Animals do not need anyone’s conscience. We ask neither for conscience nor for mercy. Animals have the right to live and we will defend this right to the end. We are at least 85% of this people. And we all hold our friends tight! We will never leave animals alone on the streets or in our neighborhoods. We shout once again to those who try to alienate us, separate us, and set us against each other and against animals that we will not achieve it.
“We will not give any of our friends to your bloody hands.”
We declare: from today we will continue to raise up a mass response and from now on we will build a neighborhood solidarity network. You see, we are not going to hand over a single one of your friends to your bloody hands. When we leave this neighborhood today, we will not feel helpless. We will turn our anger to rescue our comrades, one by one, from the murderers.
“Your genocide law is just a piece of paper to us.”
Our fight really begins now. We will join our neighborhood organizations by scanning the QR codes our friends are passing around our neighborhoods with their phones, and do our best to keep all our friends safe. Your genocidal laws are just pieces of paper to us. We will write the laws in our streets. Life and unity will prevail, not hatred and hostility!
Ankara
Pro-life activists gathered in front of the city of Çankaya, whistling and shouting the slogan “Repeal the law”. A statement made on behalf of the group afterwards said: “This slaughter does not only affect animals. We warned, but the atrocities began to take place in the streets even before the slaughter law was passed by parliament. The animal killers have been emboldened by your arguments and have already started killing animals so that you will not be able to do your job. Do you also think that those who feed animals are now at the same risk? The law you have made divides society in two. We warn you again and again: “Stop making this law.”
