Israeli forces attack Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon
In a statement to Al-Jadeed TV, based in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, Bouhabib referred to the rising tensions between Israel and the Hezbollah movement following the Majdel Shams incident.
Bouhabib said he had received assurances from the countries concerned that the possibility of an Israeli attack on Lebanon would be “limited,” and that the Hezbollah movement’s response would be similar.
Majdel Shems’ attack
It was announced that a rocket fell on a soccer field in the town of Majdel Shams in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, killing 12 people, including a child, and wounding 35, 17 of them seriously.
The Israeli army said “based on the information they had and their assessment” that the rockets were fired from north of the southern Lebanese town of Sheba, and blamed Lebanon’s Hezbollah.
Meanwhile, Lebanon’s Hezbollah denied claims that the attack in Majdel Shams was carried out by them, saying “they have nothing to do with the incident.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also issued a statement on the attack, saying: “Israel will not stand by in the face of this deadly attack. Hezbollah will pay a heavy price, the like of which it has never paid before.”
