“Around 30 homes were evacuated as a precaution.”
Sahin said an investigation by the gendarmerie showed the fire was believed to have started from a fallen utility pole, adding:
“There will be further triggers. Due to the wind, low humidity and extreme heat, the fire is rapidly spreading over a wide area to the south and east. Our friends have intervened immediately. Eight planes and six helicopters are in the sky,” he said. In addition, more than 70 people from our regional forestry directorate have taken to the air. “We received support from the metropolitan municipality, the surrounding regional forestry offices and AFAD. I can say that more than 500 personnel have put up a fierce battle. “The wind has died down, so it seems to be somewhat under control now.”
Stating that an area of about 60 hectares was affected, Sahin said, “We have evacuated around 30 houses as a precautionary measure. They say houses have burned but now they are not visible because of the smoke. We have not found any.” No animal deaths have been confirmed so far but plantations have been damaged. After the fire is put out, our damage assessment team said, “They will get it under control. Cooling and control efforts will continue throughout the night. It is now partially under control,” he said.
Fires at two different locations in Yalova have been extinguished.
Fires of unknown origin broke out in Kapakul and Keçikayaluk.
Following the report, the regional forestry office and fire brigade were dispatched to the area.
Two helicopters, 10 water tankers, two water trucks and three fire engines were deployed to extinguish the fire.
The fire was extinguished by air and ground intervention teams.
The region continues to work on cooling.
“Our teams worked hard to put out the fire.”
Almutlu District Governor Yusuf Melikşa Aydın said the team intervened within a short time after receiving the report about the fire that broke out in Koyündere district.
Aydin said his team arrived at the scene of the fire at 4 p.m. but were informed at 4.20 p.m. that there was another fire on the border between Fisticul and Kapakul villages, adding:
“Our team was also deployed there. We could see that the fire keeps jumping in four different points due to the wind. The forest area in this place as we are talking is 150 hectares in area. Thank you,” he said. “Our team controlled the fire around 18:00 without causing any serious damage and causing about 2-3 hectares of damage.”
Aydın expressed his gratitude to the teams who responded to the fire with great efforts near the settlement and the holiday village, saying, “The fire came within 300 meters of the holiday village. Our teams put in their hearts and succeeded in extinguishing the fire here as well. I thank all of them,” he said.
Air conditioning will continue in both locations until morning.
Prime Minister Aydin expressed his gratitude to the Bursa Regional Forestry Directorate, Yalova Forestry Directorate, AFAD, the Fire Brigade, Gendarmerie, TOMMA police, Almutli city, and about 600 officials from Bursa, Kocaeli and Bilecik who came to help, saying:
“Two helicopters from Bursa made our job much easier. Thankfully, we managed to put out the fire at the border between Fisticul and Kapakli before it got as big as it is here. Cooling operations are still ongoing there. The firefighting is completely over and cooling operations will continue.” As we said earlier, “depending on the time, it may seem easy, but with so many teams, putting out a fire that started at 16:00 by 18:00 is a great success.”
Aydin said security forces were investigating the cause of the fire, saying, “We already believe it is a human cause. Our friends are also going to focus on the possibility of sabotage. Since it is a fire, procedures regarding this are ongoing.” It broke out in different locations around the same time. There have also been isolated fires in four different locations in the Koyundere location. “But we will assess it,” he said.
