I don’t usually write to complain, so please don’t take this the wrong way. This is something that really surprised me. We all already know that inflation has caused grocery spending to skyrocket, but it always surprises me that we spend $80 just on standard household groceries. Remember when eggs cost $2.50? Actually, I don’t. Our parents might remember.
Well, I’ll show you my list and see if you’ll believe that it all cost me $80 at Hannaford in Portland.
Eggs, cheese, English muffins, watermelon, blackberries, granola, yogurt, salad kits, chicken, dog food, graham crackers, chocolate blueberries, palm hearts, goldfish, kombucha. You may be amazed at how I survive and usually have this in my house, but you may be even more amazed that I still can’t make a decent meal on that money. This is the part about inflation that amazes me. If you’ve read this far, you can relate.
Before you guys attack me, yes I checked my receipt and I still have it just in case. The cashier told me she wasn’t surprised as she has run over $6 for eggs and even more for fruit this week. Guys, how did this happen?! Again, I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, if this is your biggest challenge this week then I count myself lucky. But after going through this, to not feel like you have to accept it? I truly cannot imagine how families with kids feel. God bless. I’m going to go eat $80 worth of fruit with granola that is apparently priced as a delicacy.
