In Istanbul, hot weather combined with rising humidity made for a sweltering day for the city’s residents, but those looking to cool off found a solution: a dip in the sea.

Feel at 45 degrees or more
Weather data shows the city is experiencing a heatwave this week, with temperatures between 34 and 37 degrees Celsius, and rising humidity making it feel like more than 45 degrees Celsius, especially at midday.
Despite the hot weather, some visitors to Uskudar Beach took to the sea to cool off.
After refreshing themselves in the cool waters of the Bosphorus, people sunbathed on the rocks and enjoyed the unique scenery.

People walking along the shoreline tried to protect themselves from the sun with hats and parasols, while those affected by the sun spent time in shady parts of the beach.

Zeytinburnu and Yenikapı beaches were observed to be calm with very hot weather.
Istanbulites looking to spend the weekend had picnics with their families and swam in the sea.

It was noticeable that Kadebostan, the best place for swimming, was quieter than the previous week, and the parking lot at the beach remained empty. Some citizens brought chairs and tables and enjoyed picnics in the shade. Those who wanted to cool off went to the beach for a swim.
Citizens came to Kartal Beach to cool off by swimming in the sea or sitting in the shade of trees. Citizens were also seen sipping cold drinks to refresh themselves.

High densities were also observed on Büyükçekmece coast.
People cooled off with swims in the sea and sought shelter from the sun under beach umbrellas, while others spent the day sitting in camping chairs in the shade under trees.
Another popular destination for swimmers is Sarayburnu Beach. Some people prefer to swim in the cool waters, while others prefer to walk on the beach.

Citizens were amazed to see the two dolphins appear in the sea and did not forget to record it on their cell phone cameras.
Some visitors to Karakoy and Besiktas beaches spent time in the shade of parks to avoid the heat, while others preferred to stay in cafes or other closed establishments.

“It’s getting to a point where I can’t breathe because of the heat.”
Aydın Duman, who went swimming in Sarayburnu, said the weather was very hot and humid.
“The water is so beautiful and clean. You can’t find this water anywhere else. And the weather is hot,” Duman said. “Without the sea we would burn.”
Halil Demirel, who came to Kadebostan Beach for a picnic with his family, said he often swims in the sea to cool off because it is difficult to stay in the shade.

“I don’t know what we would do without the sea,” Salih Bozdemir said, adding that he had come to Saracak Beach with friends to brave the heat and swim in the Bosphorus.
Bozdemir said temperatures rise at night along with humidity. “Sometimes we have to take two showers at night. We can’t breathe. We don’t have air conditioning in our house,” he said.
Selim Küçük, who swam at Kartal Beach, said it was so hot in Istanbul that he found a solution by going to the seaside with his family.
