As of 21:20, excessive rainfall has caused flooding and landslides in the Tillebor, Espie and Doankent districts in the city center. While the 112 emergency call center received nearly 50 reports of strandings, floods, landslides and mudslides from the area, a team arrived on the scene after receiving a report of a collapsed house in Keserer village, Tillebor district, and found the following: No one was inside the collapsed house.
Four houses in the village were damaged by floods and landslides and were evacuated as a precaution. There was no loss of life or injuries as a result of the disaster, but property damage occurred.
The Tyrebolu-Doğankent road was closed due to a landslide near the 6th Martyrs Bridge, while the Giresun-Gümüşhane highway was reopened to one lane after work that continued through the night. Stranded residents were evacuated and rescued from the site while more than 50 search and rescue teams, including AFAD teams from Samsun and Ordu, AKUT and volunteers, were deployed to the area. Work to repair the landslide road continues, but rain is expected throughout the day today and citizens are urged to stay away from areas at risk of flooding and landslides and to follow official warnings.
Giresun provincial governor Mehmet Fatih Serdengeci inspected flooded areas throughout the night and received updates from authorities.
