A-team captains Edin Dzeko, Mert Hakan Jandas and Dusan Tadic made a special statement on Fenerbahçe TV ahead of the 19.07 World Fenerbahçe Supporters’ Day.
Before arriving at Fenerbahçe, the captains were first asked about their thoughts about Fenerbahçe.
Edin Dzeko: I knew how big the club was, but I needed to see and experience it for myself
Edin Dzeko responded to this question: “I have heard a lot about Fenerbahce. It is a very famous club not only in Turkiye but all over the world. At the same time, Turkiye is very close to Bosnia, so we followed the Turkish league games. There were also many Bosnian players who played here in the past. So I knew both the league and Fenerbahce very well. Being abroad, in different countries, you might hear different stories about Turkiye. There have been a lot of surprising things since I arrived. Of course, I knew how big this club is, but it has to be seen and experienced with your own eyes. So it looks even better after I arrived. I can say that Fenerbahce is a very big club. It’s a shame that he hasn’t been a champion for many years, but that’s why we are here. “We will do everything we can to achieve success this year and in the coming years.” He replied.
MERT HAKAN YANDAŞ: This interest, this passion and love for the community gives us a certain pressure, but at the same time it also has a structure that ignites and motivates us.
Mert Hakan Yandas said: “I came to the stadium many times as a rival. When I was playing for other teams, I felt that the most impressive and pressured atmosphere was when I was at Salačkyol with other teammates. I was also at the top level last season. There is a really incredible atmosphere. Everyone who comes is already amazed, especially the foreign players. This interest, passion and love for the community puts us under a certain amount of pressure, but at the same time we also have a structure that ignites and motivates us. Fenerbahçe as a community has set many examples so far, showing that if we are united, we will not fall apart, and if we are united, we are a community that cannot be stopped. I think everyone knows how great Fenerbahçe is, not only in Türkiye but also in the world. When they (Džeko, Tadic) came here, the day we went out to dinner, I could see that they were really good. “I was very happy that they accepted this place so well.” he said.
Dusan Tadic: It’s a privilege and an honour for us to play here
Dusan Tadic said, “I knew a lot about Fenerbahce. We are people who already follow football. Fenerbahce is a very big club not only in Turkey but also in Europe. I remember the matches he played in the Champions League and how he won the league in the past. Many great players have played here in the past. These were my first thoughts before coming here. I was also very familiar with our yellow-navy jersey. These were things I knew. I had heard a lot of good things about his fans too. After arriving, I had a chance to see them. Coming here, you really see how big this club is. “It is an honour and an honor for us to play here,” he replied.
The captains were then asked about their thoughts on Fenerbahçe following their transfer to the club.
“Fenerbahçe is one of those rare clubs that has been successful in different branches,” said Edin Dzeko. “We have a lot of branches, such as basketball and volleyball. This makes this club not big, but huge. This is really important. The size of the fans is also very important to us. We know that we play in a very big club, and that is a great joy for us. We always try to do our best to show that we are worthy of this community. Of course, it’s one thing to hear from the outside, and another to be inside the club. Coming here, we saw how great the facilities, the stadium and the fans are, which are the foundation of a great club. “We are proud to belong to such a big club,” he said.
Mert Hakan Yandash: I think that if other people were to go through what we went through, they would accept it with open arms and not resist it. Being indoors makes people feel more connected and more willing to give.
Mert Hakan Yandas said: “As a club, we are at an incredible level in all divisions, both amateur and professional. We are the sports club that sends the most athletes to the Olympics. Anyway, this explains everything. And there is a family phenomenon in each branch, striving to win and succeed, and Fenerbahçe Sports Club has a well-developed organization, which already shows its greatness. Having the fans and the community make the players feel every day that “you are here”, makes them feel more connected. Of course, when you come from the outside, you can’t come with that sense of belonging, but the care, attention and motivation shown to you in every moment you live here since you came makes it all complete. We went to watch a Finland game, and after seeing a 60-year-old uncle crying and chasing a bus, I began to feel differently about the club. There are many such examples. I had a young friend who runs in Hatay. This community is not just a sports club, it’s a great community, and there is an incredible ownership. I don’t think others could stand so tall and wise if they experienced what we experienced. “Being indoors makes people feel more connected and more willing to give,” he said.
Dusan Tadic: To be successful with so many branches. “This is definitely something that most clubs don’t have. We are such a big family, it’s very good to see this
“We have so many branches competing successfully,” said Dusan Tadic. “This is definitely something that most clubs don’t have. We are such a big family, so it’s nice to see this. It’s really great to see all the branches supporting each other, whether it’s the basketball, volleyball or soccer team. I knew it was a big club before I came here, but I got to know it again after coming. Before I came, I was told, ‘You’ll like it even more when you come,’ and that was exactly right. I’m very impressed by the fans, who give us such great support both at home and away. These things make us very happy. “Even if we fall down sometimes, when we get this support, we try to get back up right away. This doesn’t happen in many clubs.”
Finally, our captain was asked his thoughts on World Fenerbahce Day, the fans, unity and solidarity.
Edin Dzeko: We and the fans should do our best to succeed and achieve our goals. And we will do this
Edin Dzeko: “The fans are the most important thing for us, but we need to be united with them, only then can we succeed.” We will do our best to win games and achieve our goals in situations that depend on us. What we ask of the fans is that they believe in us and support us, just like they did last season. Things don’t always go well, things aren’t always easy. At that time, the support of the fans was very important for us. Football is a game of mistakes. If there are no mistakes in football, we, the fans and people outside can make mistakes too. It is very important to be united in such difficult moments. Let’s keep them behind us. This is very important for our young players, 16, 17, 18 years old, and it is very important for us. As the oldest member of the team at 38 years old, I say this. It is also very important for me. Let’s do our best so that we and the fans can succeed and achieve our goals. “And we are going to do this,” he said.
Mert Hakan Yandash: There is no war we can’t win if we unite, and I love it.
Mert Hakan Yandas said: “First of all, we celebrate World Fenerbahce Supporters’ Day. As usual; whether it’s July 3rd or what we went through last year, I want to emphasize the unity of the community. I’ve been saying that since I came. There is no war that we can’t win if we are united and I love that so much. As Edin said, “All the players in this community recognize how great this team is,” we’ve had good times and bad times here and I think we showed that last season. I think our fans saw this last season and it paid off. “As long as we fight for one goal with the same unity, I think we will always celebrate ‘World Fenerbahce Day,'” he said.
Dusan Tadic: Our fans and we are hungry for success. Every time we come together and come together we achieve success
Dusan Tadic said, “I probably agree with Edin and Mert.” I didn’t quite understand what Mert said (laughs), but we feel the same way, so we need to be united. Without unity we cannot succeed. Just like last year, our fans and we must always be united. Things don’t always go well, but it’s very important for us to have their backs. We will give everything on the field, even our lives if necessary, for this club. Our fans and we are hungry for success. “If we are united and united, we will definitely succeed,” he replied.
