Prosecutor announces opinion in Sinan Ateş murder case
The prosecution said defendants Elay Ojacı, Vedat Barkaya and Suat Kurt were “co-perpetrators” and that they received life sentences for the “premeditated murder” of Ateş and an aggravated 13-year prison term each for the “deliberate attempt” to murder. It sought a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for the murder of the accuser, Selman Bozkurt.

Ojaju also faced one to three years in prison for “possessing and carrying an unlicensed firearm.”
Dukan Cep and Tolgahan Demirbaş were charged with “instigating a crime” and with “intentional murder,” both of which carried an aggravated life sentence. All three defendants were acquitted.
Following the comments made, the hearing was postponed to September 30th.
In a statement after the hearing, Sinan Atesh’s wife, Ayse Atesh, said: “I call on everyone who wants to stop political killings. Political pressure on the judiciary must be eliminated and all those involved in the crimes must be tried fairly.”
In his speech, Ateş said:
“We are fighting these dark forces. If things continue this way, the Sinan Ateş case will be the shortest murder case in history. We insist that the cases be consolidated and all the criminals brought to justice. “If the cases are not solved, Turkey will be dragged into the darkness. The case regarding the murder of Sinan Ateş, former chairman of Uruk Oçakrari, began hearing on July 1. Of the 22 defendants detained in the case, 10 have been released on condition of judicial supervision.
Defendants Mehmet Yuç, Erdem Karadeniz, Osman Bayraktar, Zekeriya Asalkaya, Hakan Saraç, Ufuk Köktürk, Aytak Atak, Caner Günay, Umut Ersoy and Alper Atay were released under judicial supervision, while Uluk Ocaklal head Turgahan Demirbaş and Uluk Ocaklal deputy head Emre were released under judicial supervision. Yuksel, Mustafa Ensar Aykal, who was then head of the Murder Bureau, Aşkun Mert Gerenbey, who brought the hitmen to Ankara, Mustafa Can Çolak, Çalal Zorlu, hitman Elay Ocaç, instigator Dukan Çep, MHP lawyer Serdar Oktem and Mustafa Uzunlar are on trial in preliminary court.
A request to include in the file the complaint regarding the detention of Turgahan Demirbaş in the residence of then MHP Mersin deputy Olukai Leber and to merge the investigation files against 17 suspects, including senior MHP officials, with the existing files, was rejected.
