FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The Central California Food Bank is celebrating its 32nd anniversary and Bank of America is triple-matching donations up to $30,000.
The region’s largest nonprofit organization, focused on eliminating hunger, serves more than 300,000 people in need.
Chanel Ruiz Mendez, development director for the Central California Food Bank, said that from Thursday, July 18, through Friday, July 19, Bank of America will add an additional $2 for every dollar donated.
“We’re able to provide up to four meals, which will increase to 12 over the next two days. Thank you to Bank of America,” Luis Mendez said.
Luis Mendez said food banks often run short on donations during the summer, which can be a tough time for hungry families.
“When school is in session, the kids have breakfast, lunch and sometimes an after-school snack. But when they’re home for the summer, there are just more mouths to feed and it’s so expensive to fill food pantries these days,” Luis Mendez said.
Funds raised will go to Groceries2Go, a school meal program where people can make reservations to pick up food and have it delivered to their car.
“It really helps put food on the table and address the food budgets that a lot of people have,” Luis Mendez said.
