There’s a new food truck serving Filipino cuisine on Bloomington’s south side. Top Notch Filipino Fusion is open Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. at the end of the parking lot of Pomp’s Tire Service, 3951 S. Walnut St. Parking is best accessed from Rhorer Road, directly across from Kroger on the south side.
Owners Jeff and Maria Milliken have been catering events for a few years, but opened their food truck this summer. The duo says the food they make is much like what they eat at home. Menu items include carne frita, a rice dish made with beef marinated in onion, garlic, soy sauce, vinegar and lemon; chicken teriyaki; Bicol Express, a spicy pork dish simmered in coconut milk with bell peppers, carrots and green chilies; and pork adobo, pork marinated in a sweet and spicy sauce with garlic, bell peppers and onions.
Every menu comes with two lumpia Shanghai, Filipino-style egg rolls stuffed with chicken, garlic, carrots and onion, for $13 each. Top Notch also offers lumpia with pork, beef and veggies.
Other options sometimes on the menu or available to order include “bacareta,” a Filipino sweet and spicy beef stew with sweet potatoes, carrots, pineapple and sauce, and “pancit bihon,” a rice noodle dish.
Top Notch makes halo-halo, a Filipino summer dessert with crushed ice, milk, sweet fruits and candy. The food truck also serves water, sodas and coffee.
You can stop by the food truck when it opens and order, or call 812-345-8198 to order ahead of time, and check out their Facebook page for more information.
Toosticks Bakery is closed for the summer holidays
It’s hot outside, and it’s summer, which are two of the reasons Two Sticks Bakery will be closed from now until July 22 for its annual summer break. But don’t worry, they’ll be ready to welcome customers back with sweet and savory treats at 415 S. Washington St. when they reopen on July 23.
