Some cities in the U.S. states of Texas, Idaho, Ohio and Georgia have officially recognized Democracy and National Unity Day on July 15. A statement from the Turkish American Steering Committee (TASC) said that through TASC’s efforts, the cities of Austin, the capital of Texas, Boise, the capital of Idaho, Dayton, Ohio and Columbus, Georgia have recognized Democracy and National Unity Day on July 15.
TASC President Attorney Seyit Sahin said he had received “declarations of recognition” from the cities, reminding them that Washington, the US capital, and Baltimore, Maryland, recognized July 15 as Democracy and National Unity Day last year.
A total of six U.S. states recognize “July 15th”
Noting that a total of six US states currently recognise July 15 as Democracy and National Unity Day, Sahin expressed satisfaction with the development of relations between the two countries.
“As a Turkish-American community, we welcome this decision. The importance of these decisions increases especially considering that Texas hosts the largest number of FETO schools,” Sahin said.
“Turkey and the US have been NATO allies for many years. Our president (Recep Tayyip Erdogan) and the US president (Joe Biden) met at the NATO summit. A positive image has emerged from the meeting between Turkey and the US. The two leaders will have a positive impact on future relations,” he said.
The U.S. capital, Washington, D.C., and the city of Baltimore, Maryland, will break new ground on July 14, 2023, officially recognizing July 15 as Democracy and National Unity Day.
