Blackpink star Lisa is back! The singer’s new solo hit “Rockstar” has entered charts around the world, including the US, where it topped six charts. The single managed to make it into the Hot 100, helping Lisa make history.
“Rockstar” becomes Lisa’s third solo hit on the Hot 100, starting at No. 70. It also moves her to the top of Billboard’s ranking of the most-consumed songs in the U.S., breaking away from a tie for the most appearances among female solo artists with K-pop work.
Lisa was born in Thailand but began her music career in South Korea, where she gained fame and success in the K-Pop genre, and the majority of her work falls into this genre.
Her first time on the Hot 100 came in September 2021, when “Larissa” debuted, peaking at No. 84. By the end of the year, she returned with “Money,” which was released at the same time as her earlier win; that cut spent two frames on the chart but only peaked at No. 90.
Before “Rockstar,” Lisa had made history alongside fellow Korean musician CL, who had two songs on the Hot 100 nearly a decade ago, when American success for artists from Asian countries was still extremely rare.
CL debuted on the Hot 100 alongside PSY. She was credited on PSY’s single “Daddy,” which peaked at number 97. In 2016, a few months after the success of “Daddy,” her own song “Lifted” stayed one frame at number 94.
Three other female solo K-pop artists have made it onto the Hot 100 chart: fellow Blackpink members Jennie and Rosé, and Yujin, who has only one song on the chart so far.
As a group, Blackpink has nine songs on the Hot 100, the second-most among South Korean and K-pop music groups to have made the list, behind BTS.
