England beat the Netherlands 2-1 in the semi-finals of the 2024 European Football Championship (EURO 2024) to advance to the final, where they will face Spain.
The goal that sent England to the final was a 90+1 goal from the penalty spot by Harry Kane in the 18th minute, Ollie Watkins scored the next minute, while the only goal for the Netherlands was scored by Simons in the 7th minute.
The result secured England a place in the final and gave the Netherlands a bye to the tournament.
The final will be held in Berlin on July 14th.
The Euro 2024 final has been named Spain vs England.
Spain and England will face off for the Champions Cup at the Berlin Olympic Stadium on Sunday 14 July.
The final will start at 22:00 TSI.
Player of the Match: Watkins
UEFA announced that Ollie Watkins, who scored the goal that propelled England to the final, was named Player of the Year.
Watkins came on as a replacement for Harry Kane in the 81st minute and scored the goal that gave his team the victory and the final ten minutes later.
Depay injured
Memphis Depay, one of the most important players in the Netherlands’ attack, went down with an injury in the 34th minute of the match.
In the 35th minute, manager Ronald Koeman brought on Joey Veerman to replace Depay, who was unable to continue.
England reach second final
England defeated the Netherlands to advance to the final and qualify for just the second time in history.
Great Britain, who have advanced to the semi-finals for the fourth time in history along with the Netherlands, have only made it to the final once before at Euro 2020, losing to Italy in a penalty shootout.
England have never won the tournament, having reached the semi-finals in 1968 and 1996 but never the final.
Netherlands loses in semi-final for fifth time
The Netherlands lost their fifth European Championship in the semi-finals.
The Netherlands, who reached the semi-finals in this group in 1976, 1988, 1992, 2000 and 2004, will achieve this success for a sixth time at EURO 2024. They won one of their semi-final matches but were unable to avoid elimination in the fifth round.
The Netherlands’ only previous victory in the tournament was in 1988, when it was also hosted by Germany.
