Sounds American…snack food?
I’m Haley Shipp bringing you agriculture news for the Southeast. This is the Agriculture Information Network.
I’m an aspiring cook who lives too far out of the way to jump on food trends right away, so I watch from afar. Food trends, if you will. Today I’m taking a closer look at the latest snacking trends revealed by Mondelez International, makers of Oreo and Ritz, as featured in FoodDive.com’s recent Trendlines report. (https://shorturl.at/Y9MLH)
A recent survey found that six in ten consumers prefer to eat small portions of food multiple times over several large small portions. What’s more, an astonishing 88% say they snack daily. But consumer preferences are changing. Health and wellness are becoming key factors influencing snacking choices. Many are choosing foods with fewer calories, preservatives and sugar. High-protein, nutrient-dense snacks are also on the rise.
In response to these trends, leading food companies are introducing smaller packs, healthier ingredients and new flavors to meet evolving consumer needs and maintain a strong presence in the multi-billion dollar snacking market.
So what’s the latest snacking trend? I love some concrete info! We’ll take a closer look at it tomorrow, but suffice to say there’s something fishy about it.
