Toledo residents want fairgrounds in East County
At a Toledo city meeting Wednesday to discuss a county events center, areas east of Newport, toward Toledo or Siletz, were suggested as possible locations for the new fairgrounds.
At least three people suggested possible sites near the Toledo Dairy Queen, Yaquina Bay Road and Siletz.
“You can’t play outside in Newport,” said Toledo-area resident Mary Johnson. “The weather is so bad in the summer. It’s so windy.”
No matter how hard someone tries to do a good deed, someone will come along to ruin it.
That was one incident observed by about 200 members of the Pacific Northwest Four-Wheel Drive Association during a major cleanup operation on forest service roads in Lincoln and Tillamook counties last weekend.
Volunteer crews on Saturday removed the body of an abandoned car, one of seven they removed over the weekend, from an embankment on the old Scenic Highway in Cape Cascade. They left it on the side of the road to be retrieved later, but when they returned to load it onto a truck, they discovered someone had pushed it over the embankment on the other side of the road.

Thomas was reluctant to abandon the rapidly sinking Jane Ann, which he had spent most of last winter rebuilding, but at the last moment the rigging nearly caused it to sink.
He praised the lifeboat crew of an East German fishing trawler who rescued him after just minutes in the cold, rough seas.

High school site selection remains in doubt
The site in North Lincoln where the county school board will build a new high school to replace Taft’s current building appears to have yet to be decided after all.

The man dropped his hat during his escape, but the men who found it believe they know its owner.
