Local artist Jana Lynch partnered with 602 Brewing Company to create a space to heal the community through art, while also benefiting the Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry.
What you need to know
Lynch invites the public to come to 602 Brewing Company, 919 Main St. in Bastrop, every Thursday to make a small donation to the food pantry and hand-paint a butterfly in memory of those who have passed away. The completed butterfly will be added to an art installation called Welcome Hope at Eden East Farm.
In exchange for donations to food pantries, Jana Lynch helps create butterfly art at 602 Brewing Company. Anyone who wants to drink gets their first pint free. (Courtesy of Jana Lynch)
“You can use paint, gems and glitter to create a butterfly that represents a loved one,” Lynch said. “I will deliver the money to the food pantry every Friday, and by the following Wednesday your creation will be on display in our community art installation.”
To help keep the project moving forward, Lynch has created an Amazon gift list so anyone who wants to help can send needed supplies.
Jana Lynch said anyone who is able to donate through her Amazon gift list can contact her on Facebook or Instagram at Jana.Lynch and she will create a personalized butterfly for them. (Courtesy of Jana Lynch)
context
Kelly Manfredini, director of marketing and communications for the Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry, said in a news release that the pantry welcomes the help, noting that more than one in seven Bastrop County residents live in poverty and face both food insecurity and malnutrition.
“Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry has been hit hard over the past four years,” Manfredini said. “In 2023, we fed over 80% more of our neighbors than we did in 2020.”
