Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene was scolded online over the weekend for getting a basic American history wrong during Friday’s Fourth of July celebration. The Georgia congresswoman’s gaffe, in which she mistakenly named George Washington, Paul Revere and several other historical figures as signers of the Declaration of Independence in a since-flagged X-post, was quickly condemned and mocked by social media users on both the liberal and conservative sides.
“This is the best community notebook ever.” Written by a certain X user The post was removed on Sunday after Mr. X officially flagged it with an annotation stating, “James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, James Monroe, Aaron Burr, Paul Revere and George Washington did not sign the Declaration of Independence.”
“Making stupidity embarrassing again,” the individual said. Added.
Taylor Greene’s original post was intended to highlight the ages of the people who signed the historic document, writing: “The average age of those who signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 was 44, but more than a dozen were under the age of 35.”
The congressman copied out some of the signatories, including some incorrect ones, such as Revere, best known as the American Revolutionary War hero who warned Boston residents before the Battles of Lexington and Concord that British troops were on their way.

“Thomas Jefferson: 33 John Hancock: 39 James Madison: 25 Alexander Hamilton: 21 James Monroe: 18 Aaron Burr: 20 Paul Revere: 41 George Washington: 44,” she continued, mistakenly naming five more people. Taylor Greene’s post was quickly flooded with X-users, who mocked and criticized her for being a self-proclaimed American patriot with little knowledge of American history.
“This has been going on forever,” Aaron Blake, a senior political reporter at The Washington Post, wrote Sunday, along with screenshots of Sen. Marsha Blackburn, Rep. Dan Bishop and former Rep. Madison Cawthorn getting factually wrong about the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.

Commenting under the post, Rep. Jack Kimble jokingly asked Taylor Greene, “How did you forget Johnny Appleseed, Paul Bunyan and Ronald Reagan?”

Since the post was made, people have continued to respond to it, including conservative radio host Erick Erickson, who questioned Taylor Greene’s intelligence.
“What? Stupid? Embarrassing,” he wrote.

I’m all for making fun of Marjorie here. Naturally. But I bet the majority of Americans also believe these people signed the Declaration. Average history knowledge is limited to just a few key figures. Nobody actually knows the correct history. https://t.co/INoEGyzLRo

I am just as qualified to do her job as Marjorie Taylor Greene is, because I don’t have Scooby-Doo who signed the Declaration of Independence.

Fellow Georgians, are you aware that Marjorie Taylor Greene lacks basic historical knowledge that even a fifth grader would know?
James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, James Monroe, Aaron Burr, Paul Revere and George Washington did not sign the Declaration of Independence!!
