For those who are about to get a driver’s license: The driver’s license test is about to change
Tekin said the draft rules were nearing completion, adding: “Once submitted for signature and published, driving schools will need to make changes to ensure compliance. This rule could be seen as one that raises standards.”
Murat Tekin said the following about the training of driver candidates in Turkey:
“Driving tests are now being carried out in Turkey above European standards. These standards are being raised even further by the Highway Traffic Safety Strategy Document and Action Plan. With the prepared regulations, changes will be made to the driving tests of trainees.” In order to train better drivers, the test time will be extended to 40 minutes. It is expected that trainees who enroll in driving courses will have to update their IDs. This is an important act for security reasons. To prevent fraudulent activities such as changing someone else’s ID or entering someone else’s ID, and the routes tested during driving training will also be expanded. Here, the driver will operate in flowing traffic to calculate the standard and success. Here, the question “I learned to drive in an open space and got my driver’s license. What do I do in the traffic movement?” will be answered. “We are planning to carry out a test in which the driver will be able to enter flowing traffic.”
Two lawsuits are expected to be filed
Highlighting that driver candidates have problems parking between two cars, Tekin said: “The trainees had to back up and park their car between two cars in one go, which was very tough. It was the non-death related items that caused all the accidents.” Here too, training must be focused. “Variations are expected. Trainees will have a first attempt at parking between two vehicles, and if they fail, they can get out of the car and retry the maneuver.”
In this regard, Tekin said he envisages adding a “U-turn” maneuver to motorcycle and car driving training in the driving test, saying, “Trainees will be asked to make a “U-turn” in two maneuvers in one area, 6 to 6.5 metres wide for two-wheeled vehicles and 8 metres wide for four-wheeled vehicles.”
Tekin explained that he expects instructors who provide the training will also be included in the regulations, saying, “It is expected that master instructors who provide the training will undergo in-service training again every 10 years and the regulations will change, at which point,” he said. “Once the regulations are issued, our master instructors and examiners will undergo this training once they have completed it.” “They will then have to renew this training every 10 years,” he said.
Consideration is expected for people with disabilities
Tekin noted the increasing use of electric vehicles in Turkey, noting that driving schools have started using them in training.
Tekin explained that driving schools are also adapting to the changes made by the Ministry of National Education regarding electric vehicles, saying, “We hope that the new regulations will lead to regulations on the use of electric automatic transmission vehicles in driving schools. The vehicles subject to the test are electric vehicles, and battery life and remaining battery power also relate to the vehicle, but are normal if it is an electric vehicle. Vehicles that are not on the road will be removed and the definition of electric vehicles will be introduced,” he said.
Tekin spoke about the problems experienced by disabled trainees in their driving tests: “All disabled trainees have different types of disabilities. We may not be able to make one vehicle suitable for 100 types of disabilities, but that is expected. “To make a change here too, if you want to get a driver’s license, you have to drive your own vehicle. Enroll in the course with this vehicle, drive your own vehicle. Train in this vehicle, take your graduation test in this vehicle. If you cannot get this, you can rent this vehicle. ” “We want to introduce alternatives, which is also good for disabled nationals, so that when disabled nationals arrive, they will be able to train and take the test in a vehicle that they can get or rent according to their disability, instead of the vehicle that is provided to them. “
