OCEAN CITY — What better way to honor the manager of the Ocean City Food Cupboard than with a citywide food drive?
The city-sponsored fundraiser will collect non-perishable food items in memory of Regina Ralston, vice president of the Ocean City Ecumenical Council and manager of the food pantry that has provided food to area residents since 1983.
Ralston passed away recently, at the age of 75.
A native of Norristown, Pennsylvania, Ralston is survived by her husband, Robert Ralston, brothers, sisters, nephews and nieces, according to her obituary. She also served as music director at St. Francis Cabrini Church and taught religious education for 20 years.
Ocean City spent the morning cleaning up the community and honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., then rallied with songs and speeches at the Ocean City Tabernacle and, as has become an expected part of the event, ended with a shared meal.
“We invite community members to make a donation to the Food Cupboard in memory of Regina,” said Mayor Jay Gillian. “This would have been her only wish, so let’s honour her memory by filling the shelves of the Food Cupboard.”
