Minnesota Twins third baseman Jose Miranda tied a major league record on Saturday by hitting in 12 consecutive at-bats, becoming just the fourth player in MLB history to accomplish this feat.
The 26-year-old Miranda tied the record with singles in the second and fourth innings against Houston Astros pitcher Hunter Brown, teaming with some of MLB’s greatest players of all time, including Johnny Kling of the Chicago Cubs (1902), Pinky Higgins of the Boston Red Sox (1938) and Walt Dropo of the Detroit Tigers (1952).

This marks only the fourth time in MLB history that this milestone has been achieved, and the first time since 1952! 🤯

But the third-year major leaguer set the longest hitting streak since major league expansion in 1961. Boston’s Dustin Pedroia hit in 11 consecutive at-bats in 2016, and New York Yankees’ Bernie Williams did it in 2002.
Miranda was hit by a pitch in his first at-bat on Saturday and has now reached base in 13 consecutive at-bats, a Twins franchise record. Kevin Youkilis did it. Miranda won a championship with the Red Sox in 2009. But he never quite matched the MLB record of 17 homers set by Piggy Ward in 1893.
The streak was snapped in the sixth inning when Miranda hit a fly ball to left-center field, and the Target Field crowd cheered his accomplishment.
“Hard work pays off. You don’t see this every day.” Miranda said Audra Martin of Barry Sports North after the match: “It’s great to be a part of this match.”
Miranda was in good position to tie the record Friday night after going 4-for-4 with one home run, breaking the Twins franchise record of 10 consecutive hits in 10 at-bats, surpassing the mark set by Mickey Hatcher, Todd Walker and Hall of Famer Tony Oliva.
The last major leaguer to hit in 10 consecutive at-bats was Corey Dickerson, who accomplished it in 2022 with the St. Louis Cardinals.
This season, Miranda is batting .328 with a .901 OPS, 20 doubles, nine home runs and 43 RBIs in 262 at-bats.
Miranda’s accomplishment came in the Twins’ 9-3 win over the Astros.
