August Plueger
As we gather with family and friends to celebrate Independence Day, we remember the immense privilege we share as Americans. It is a day to commemorate the birth of our great nation, founded on the principles of liberty, democracy, and the pursuit of happiness. It is a day to reflect on our history, honor the sacrifices of countless men and women, and reaffirm our commitment to uphold the values that make America a beacon of hope and freedom today.
For 20 years, I had the honor of serving as a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force, defending my country from threats both foreign and domestic. I flew combat missions against ISIS in Syria and Iraq and was stationed in various locations around the world. The experiences I gained during my military career have given me a deep understanding of not only the importance of my country, but what it takes to defend it. Each mission has highlighted the importance of vigilance and the need for unwavering dedication to defending our homeland.
I am a proud Texan and a staunch conservative. I believe in the foundational principles that have guided this nation since its founding: our Constitution, our freedoms, and our way of life are worth defending with all our might. This belief continues to drive me in my current role as a member of the Homeland Security Committee, as I discover and learn about the myriad threats our nation faces every day.
From cyber attacks, to known and suspected terrorists crossing our southern border, to ever-changing global conflicts, the threats to our nation are real and persistent. The Fourth of July is a reminder that our nation’s independence and way of life are not guaranteed, and they must be vigorously protected and preserved.
This Independence Day, let us celebrate the freedoms we enjoy and remind ourselves of our obligation to protect them. Let us honor the sacrifices of those who came before us by ensuring that our children and grandchildren will inherit a country that is safe, strong, and free. The United States of America is the greatest nation the world has ever seen, and it is our responsibility to protect its future.
Every day I continue to have hope for our country and believe that it will continue to be a beacon of freedom throughout the world. Happy Independence Day. May God continue to bless the United States of America.
