Pleasanton Grocery Outlet, along with franchise owners across the country, are participating in the 14th annual Independence From Hunger campaign, collecting food and cash donations for families in need.
“Since 1946, our company’s guiding principles have been built around our desire to serve and give back to our communities,” said RJ Sheedy, president of Emeryville-based Grocery Outlet Holding Corp. “Our customers and communities are the foundation of our success, and we feel it’s important that we continue to support these communities in any way we can, especially during a time when they need help the most.”
Grocery Outlet operates 500 value grocery stores throughout California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio and Delaware. Most stores are independently owned and operated.
The Pleasanton store is partnering with the Alameda Food Bank and Tri-Valley Haven for this year’s food security campaign and is accepting food and cash donations in-store.
Inflation is straining low-income communities across the country, with 41 million people, or one in six households, now turning to food banks for help, according to the USDA, even as the number of people donating to food banks is falling.
During the campaign, Grocery Outlet shoppers who donate $5 or more will receive a $5 coupon for a future purchase.
You can also buy pre-packed grocery bags and drop them off in collection boxes at the store or make a donation at the register.
